Helsinki

Capital of Finland, Helsinki (Helsingfors in the local language) is a town approxmately the size of Bordeaux - 500 000 inhabitants. It's a recent town, built following the Russian way of architecture, and indeed one gets a strange feeling of eastern Europe by walking in its streets.

The photos below are the summary of my trip, from Umeå to Stockholm by bus, and from Stockholm to Helsinki by boat.

From Umeå to Helsinki.

Night pictures, taken on the boat, as the waves scatter on the deck...

A bridge, hanging over nowhereness. Stockholms harbour. Stockholm by night.
Stockholm... The boat's upper deck. The
The boat's chimney. Don't you feel observed... ? Sauron's eye... ? Lifeboat.
Bridge. Frightening chimney.

Helsinki

We arrive with the fog, which gives the city a bit of the atmosphere of London... We decide to visit the town by foot.

Island in the fog. The ferry turns to go to the terminal. Houses on rock.
Another ferry in the fog. Valkosaarenkari Blekholms grundet, close to the harbour. A church, carved into granit.
Senate squares' catherdal. Statues on the same square. Eteläranta market place.
Commercial center of some kind (kalevala koru). Sibelius monument. Inside view, with flash...
... And without flash. Sculpture of Sibelius. Inside the monument.
Helsinki's Opera. Trains in the fog. Parliament's Palace.
With windows... ... Or without ? (illusion...)
Inside the Granite church. Sibelius monument. The National History museum...
... and its bear. Statue in front of the Kiasma modern art museum. Kiasma's grand hall.
